Rauschpfeife

Rauschpfeife

The rauschpfeife is a capped reed instrument – it has a reed which produces the sound but rather than playing the reed directly with the lips the player blows into a cap above the reed. As a result, the rauschpfeife has no dynamic – it’s either ‘on’ or ‘off’. Like my shawms, my soprano rauschpfeife is made by Eric Moulder and is based on an original in the Czech Music Museum in Prague.
