Mandocello
My most recent acquisition was commissioned in 2017 to replace its 1988 predecessor, and like its predecessor it’s from the workshop of the legendary Rob Armstrong. It has Indian rosewood back and sides, and a spruce top. It’s a real beast of an instrument with a bright and ringing top end and a thunderous bass response. Although a mandocello should be tuned CGda (like a cello) I tune mine FCgc as it’s a more flexible tuning to play with most of Sophie’s instruments.
